The weather cooperated (more or less) this past weekend (5/9/2015) for the 2015 Wildwood NJ Boardwalk Spring Classic Car Show. The roar of engines (and horns!) could be heard throught the island as the cars departed the Wildwood boardwalk on Schellenger Avenue. My ears are still recovering from one particular truck horn.
Missing this year (and maybe last year as well, come to think of it) was the squeal of tires as the classic car drivers “lit ’em up”. I am guessing that the city must have passed an ordinance against the practice. Personally I think the event is missing some flavor without the sound and smells of the drivers burning rubber, but on the other hand the streets would get pretty tore up afterwards. Perhaps in the future there could be a specific spot designated for the hot-rodders to do their thing?
At any rate, here’s some video of the classic cars departing the boardwalk. My favorite was the Delorean, although the missing flux capacitor was a let-down. There’s probably nowhere to reach speeds of 88 mph on the island anyway, right?
